PM Nepal inaugurates Bagmati Action Plan |

The implementation of the ambitious Bagmati Action Plan (BAP) – aimed at cleaning the polluted holy river – began today, with Prime Minister Madhav Kumar Nepal laying a foundation at Gokarna. "I dream of being able to jog along the Bagmati banks early morning, breathing in fresh air. I guess, so does everyone. I urge all to support the government bid of restoring the Bagmati to its original pristine condition," said the PM at a function today.

Miss teens receive tips on water management |

Experts today warned that the city could face an acute shortage of potable water in the near future if water and its sources were not managed properly.Talking to 24 participants of the Miss Teen contest, to be organised by Kathmandu Jaycees, about the importance of managing water and preserving its sources, Prakash Amatya, executive director, NGO Forum for Urban Water and Sanitation, said city dwellers need to be aware and cautious about the issue in order to avert a looming crisis. |

Locals participate in solving water woes |

Local residents at Tokha have set a precedent by preserving their cultural heritage as well as promoting the use of sustainable water resources. Residents, none of whom have running water at home, have consolidated their efforts to clean and maintain three stone water spouts that were constructed at least 150 years ago. The Environment and Public Health Organization (ENPHO), local clubs of Tokha, and women’s cooperatives in Tokha conducted a programme to clean the stonespouts and create awareness about safe drinking water on November 29. Since then, local residents agree that their initiatives have only had positive impacts.
